But, to truly enjoy the full benefits of your candles, it’s essential to know how to care for them properly. In this candle care guide, we’ll share expert tips and tricks on how to extend the life of your AromaWorks candles, ensuring they remain a delightful part of your home for as long as possible.

Why Does Candle Care Matter?

Caring for your candles isn’t just about making them last longer, it’s about enhancing your overall experience. Proper candle care ensures an even burn, maximises the scent throw, and keeps your home safe. It’s also a sustainable practice - taking care of your candles means less waste and more enjoyment.

Candle Care Essentials: Unlocking The Secrets To A Balanced, Beautiful Burn
How To Achieve An Even Burn From The Start

The first time you light your AromaWorks candle is crucial. To prevent tunnelling - a situation where the wax around the wick melts down the centre, leaving a ring of unmelted wax on the sides - you’ll need to allow the wax to melt across the entire surface before extinguishing it. An even burn on the first use sets the stage for future burns, ensuring your candle lasts longer.

Depending on the size of your candle, the recommended max burn time is slightly different:

Light Up All Three For Triple The Glow

For our three wick candles, it’s essential to light all three wicks simultaneously. This ensures an even burn across the entire surface and helps to maintain the candle’s balance. If you only light one wick, you’ll risk creating an uneven melt pool, which can lead to tunnelling and wasted wax.

Mastering Burn Time

To maximise the life of your candles, it’s recommended that you burn them for no more than 3 hours at a time. Burning for any longer than this can cause the candle to overheat, which may lead to tunnelling and decrease the overall burn time.

Tips To Extend Burn Time:
  • Keep It Short & Sweet: By limiting your burn sessions to 3 hours, you’ll allow the wax to melt evenly across the surface, creating a full melt pool which extends to the edges of the container. This helps ensure that the candle will burn down evenly over time, using all the wax.
  • Let It Cool: After each burn, allow the candle to cool completely before relighting it. This gives the wax a chance to reset, ensuring that each subsequent burn is as clean and even as the first.
  • Trim The Wick: Always trim the wick to about 6mm before each use, this produces a smaller, more controlled flame and ensures a consistent burn.
  • Avoid Drafts: Keeping your candle in a draft-free area will prevent uneven burning. Drafts can cause the flame to flicker and dance, leading to an uneven melt pool and potentially causing tunnelling.
How To Savour The Glow

With proper care, including trimmed wicks and burning in a draft-free environment, our candles have the following average overall burn time:

  • Small (10cl) - 20 hours
  • Medium (30cl) - 36 hours
  • Large 3 Wick - 40 hours

Cool Down & Prep For The Next Glow

Once your candle has cooled down completely after a burn, always trim the wick to about 6mm. This prevents the candle from smoking and ensures a clean, even burning. Trimming the wick also helps control the flame size, preventing it from becoming too large, which can cause the candle to burn quicker than intended. Keeping it trimmed also helps to reduce soot, aiding the overall burn quality.

Keep Your Candles Fresh

Here at AromaWorks, we use only 100% natural essential oils and waxes, ensuring that our candles are free from harmful chemicals. To maintain their purity and potency, store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Dust-Free & Ready To Glow

When not in use, keep your candles covered to prevent dust and debris from settling on the wax. This not only keeps them looking pristine but also ensures a clean burn for the next time you light them.

Give Your Candle Jar A Second Life

Once your candle has burned down to about 1cm of wax, it’s time to stop using it. Continuing to burn the candle beyond this point can cause the jar to overheat, possibly leading to cracking. Instead of discarding the jar, clean it out and repurpose it as a stylish holder for makeup brushes, pens, or small plants.

Elevate Your Candle Experience

Taking care of your AromaWorks candles is an art form in itself. By following these tips, you’ll not only prolong the life of your candles but also enhance the overall experience they bring to your home. Remember, each candle tells a story - make yours last as long as possible.
